James Ndichu alias Mugo wa Wairimu, who rose to fame after allegations that he was running a fake clinic in which he molested women, has been sentenced to 29 years in jail without the option of a fine. Speaking while reading the sentence, Nairobi chief magistrate Wendy Kagendo described Mugo as a danger top society adding that he used his skills as a trained nurse to endanger the lives of women who trusted him with their health. Mugo was first arrested in 2015 after a TV expose revealed that he run an unlicensed clinic in Nairobi’s Githurai area where he allegedly sedated women and sexually assaulted them. In October 2015, he was charged with 12 offenses which included rape and operating a clinic without a license.

During the hearing, the court established that Mugo was a trained nurse but did not have the necessary license to practice. Despite the evidence presented against him for the duration of his case, Mugo has maintained that he’s not a fake doctor while urging the court to reduce his sentence. He is currently serving an 11-year sentence for operating an illegal clinic in Kayole. The court gave him 14 days to appeal the sentence.
