Rose flowers are some of the most iconic, revered and popular flowers to ever exist. They are associated with love and affection, but there is more to them than just that.

William Shakespeare once wrote, “What’s in a name? That which we call a Rose by another name would smell sweet.”

They were first grown in China 5000 years ago, and to this date, they hold the same allure.

Rose flowers come in different colours, and every colour bears a different meaning. Below are some of the different meanings roses have, lest you pass the wrong message!

Red rose

A red rose is the ultimate expression of romantic love. It shows deep emotions and an unmistakable desire towards someone.

A deep red rose flower also signifies heartfelt regret or sorrow. Gifting someone 12 red roses conveys a message of ‘Be Mine’ and ‘I Love You’. They popularly given during Valentine’s Day and you might have also seen them in love scenes in theater.

White rose

Historically, the white rose signifies innocence and purity, that explains its presence in weddings. White rose flowers stand out from all other roses because of their beauty and innocence. They are given to brides as they walk down the aisle, ceremonial occasions like anniversaries, christening and graduation to show pure love. On the contrary, they can also be used to convey sympathy and humility.

Pink rose.

The pink rose was the first rose to be cultivated. It conveys messages of love, gratitude and spreads cheer.  The dark pink ones mean deep gratitude and appreciation. Light pink roses indicate sweetness and innocence.

Yellow rose.

A yellow rose is the ultimate expression of exuberance. Just like the sun is yellow, this rose brings bubbles of joy, warmth and general wish of well- being.

Orange rose.

Just like the yellow rose reminds us of the sun, the orange rose is attached to a fiery blaze, citrus, and sunset. They convey messages of ‘congratulations’ and ‘ I love you.’ The bloom signifies passion and energy.

Lavender rose

This rose signifies enchantment – an expression of love at first sight. The darker petals (close to purple) bring a sense of regal majesty and splendor, which spikes fascination and adoration.
