For 40-year-old lawyer Jesse Kariuki and his family, the events of the festive season of 2008 unfolded like a horror movie. It started on Wednesday, December 12, 2008 when Jesse of Thika-based Jesse Kariuki and Company Advocates and his children – Tracy Wangui and Trevor Kariuki, then 10 and four respectively, got into their Toyota Rav 4 car to drive to their Kieni West rural home in Nyeri County for Jamhuri Day celebrations.
