KNEC Warns Schools Against Fake KJSEA Performance Analysis

KNEC Warns Schools Against Fake KJSEA Performance Analysis
  • PublishedDecember 15, 2025

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a strong warning to schools and the public following the circulation of misleading documents purporting to analyse the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results.

“We urge schools to stop misleading the public with fake and inaccurate KJSEA results analysis,” KNEC stated, clarifying that several schools and individuals have been sharing unofficial performance analysis that do not reflect the assessment framework used under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

According to the council, these documents falsely present aggregate scores, school mean scores and rankings, elements that do not exist in the KJSEA assessment system.

KNEC emphasised that KJSEA evaluates learners on a subject-by-subject basis, with performance reported using achievement levels rather than numerical totals or overall grades. The council noted that the CBC is designed to focus on individual learner competencies and progress, not competition between schools or learners.

“Unlike the former system, KJSEA does not provide an aggregate score. Why? Because CBC is about nurturing individual potential, not ranking learners. There is, therefore, no school mean score.”  KNEC said, adding that such practices risk confusing parents and learners while undermining the objectives of the CBC.

The council has directed schools to refrain from generating or distributing their own KJSEA performance summaries and urged parents to rely only on official communication issued by KNEC and the Ministry of Education.

KNEC also reminded the public that placement and progression decisions will be guided strictly by officially released results and established guidelines.

The warning comes shortly after the release of the 2025 KJSEA results, which mark a key transition point for learners moving from junior to senior school under the CBC system.
