Fake alcohol valued at Sh10 million has been found at Jerusalem Shopping Center in Embakasi West constituency, Nairobi.

The alcohol, which was kept in 300 cartons, was found by the Nairobi County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing board officers yesterday.

Committee representative, Mr. Stephen Kambi, said that the holder of the freight, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, was apprehended while carrying the cartons at Jerusalem Shopping Center and was expected to be summoned before a Nairobi court on Wednesday.

“We got a tip-off from members of the public today (Tuesday) concerning a warehouse that was storing some funny kind of alcohol. We made a raid and found the stock which had almost 300 boxes of illegal liquor. We estimate the value of the illicit alcohol to be around Sh10 million,” said Mr. Kambi.

He urged locals to always alert the board on counterfeit alcohol vendors  and promised to take stern action against perpetrators.“

Embakasi West sub-county liquor committee chair, Mr. Paul Ayiro revealed that the KRA stickers on the bottles had not been approved.

“We are yet to validate the genuineness of the KRA stickers on the alcohol bottles but we have seized them and we are taking the reserves to Jogoo police station,” said Mr. Ayiro.
