Kenya and South Sudan, on Monday,  announced the removal of Visa requirements for the citizens of the two countries in a bid to boost regional integration. July the two nations announced the removal of Visa requirements for their citizens visiting both nations. Making the announcement the foreign affairs permanent secretary said the move is a way to boost integration between the two East African Community members.

In a statement to announce the decision Kenya’s permanent secretary in the ministry of foreign affairs, Macharia Kamau said that the waiver was to take effect immediately.

This means that citizens from the two countries will be allowed to enter either countries  freely  as long as they carry a valid passport and meet the health conditions for anyone traveling to avoid the spread of the corona virus.

The move is in line with the treaty establishing the East African Community’s Common Market Protocol, an agreement providing for the free movement of labour and people from the member states.

Since joining EAC in 2016, South Sudan has gradually adopted crucial protocols of the community although it lagged in some instances like delayed remittance of membership fees.

The EAC has 6 member states that include Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and South Sudan.
