You Don’t Have to Take Her Out

You Don’t Have to Take Her Out
  • PublishedFebruary 13, 2025

It is that time of the year again when love is in the air and a lot of romantic gestures are thrown around. Flowers sell out, florists get to put a buck in their pocket, and the streets are painted red, awash in a sea of fabric and lipstick.

This all sounds fun until you can’t afford a nice bouquet or lunch for your significant other, let alone a dinner. Well, you don’t have to take her out. Below are some fun alternatives for you to do instead:

Romantic Dinner at Home

This is a good alternative to taking your significant other out. Cook a special meal together; it may be the first home-cooked meal you had together, your first date meal, or maybe your partner’s favourite meal. Your family’s special meal would also do the trick. It highlights a lot of thought, and care and will definitely make them feel special.

Game Night

There is a wide variety of games that couples could play. Board games, card games, or video games with other couples are a good and healthy way to spend time together on Valentines Day. A game night encourages bonding.

Dance party

Put some music on and dance the night away. Introduce each other to some of your favourite artists and genres. If you feel like you may not enjoy a dance party by yourselves, hitting up the disco or inviting friends over will always make for a good time.

Have a “yes” day

Let your partner choose all of the activities for you to do during the day. Have a safe word in case you need to go for breaks. Avoid extremes and keep in mind that this could easily go wrong, so do it all within reason and keep checking in with your partner.

Volunteer together

Volunteer together at an orphanage or on a cleaning initiative where you give back to the community. This creates a sense of feel-good and is a meaningful way to connect with your significant other.

There are many many things that you can do to make Valentines Day feel special without breaking the bank. Do not compare yourself to others, do not succumb to social media pressure, and be open with your partner. Communication has always been the key, and if that doesn’t work, they are probably not right for you.

Happy Valentine’s!
