Witnesses say that several of the victims, most of whom were elderly, were relatives from Gangara, Ndutori and Kivwe villages who were on their way to Siakago in Mbeere North Sub-County to register for the Inua Jamii cash transfer programme.
According to Mbeere North police boss Kivinda Kilonzo, the police are yet to establish the exact number of survivors.
