KJSEA Results Out: How to Check Grade 9 Placements via SMS and KNEC Portal
  • PublishedDecember 11, 2025

Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) results are to be out on December 11. Grade 9 students who had undertaken their exam between October 27th, 2025, and November 3rd, 2025, can access their performance records and see their pick of schools based on that.

The KJSEA exam serves as the national exam that marks students’ transition into senior secondary school. This exam accounts for 60% of a student’s grade, while the rest is derived from school assessments.

How to check results and placements

For parents and learners

Parents can head to the KNEC (Kenya National Examinations Council) Parent Portal and enter their child’s assessment details to access and download the results.

For schools

On the other hand, institutions can do this through the KNEC CBA (Competency-Based Assessment) portal, where you can access results by way of username and password. However, these depend on SCDEs (Sub-County Director of Education), which vary depending on the location of a school.

Click on the KPSEA (all grades) or KILEA (for special needs learners) tabs on the portal and view reports. The KPSEA School Specific Report contains an account of all the grade reports and can be downloaded.

Via SMS

You can send an SMS to the number ‘22263’ at KES 30/- and any individual (parent or learner) with the right details, i.e., a student’s assessment number.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok’s original prediction frames the release of Grade 9 results before December 11th, 2025.

“We plan to release the results and do placements within one week. We expect the learners to get their letters before Christmas and report on January 12, 2026,’’ Bitok emphasised.

What does KNEC have to say?

Over 1 million learners expect to make the transition into senior secondary school. This marks a milestone for the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) system has been in action since 2017.

The CBC implementation works side by side with the original 8-4-4 system, with students of the latter set to join higher institutions as the initial curriculum is slowly phased out.

Based on students’ results, placements will be under three career path fields: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM); Social Sciences, Arts, and Sport Sciences.

What’s next?

KNEC announced that they have been made aware of nefarious schemes that involve grade changes for pay; nonetheless, Kenya’s Ministry of Education gives a timeline that confirms letters of admission will be accessible by December 25th, 2025, and Grade 9 leavers are to report to their institutions of higher learning as early as January 12th, 2026.
