A video circulating online showing alleged bullying of younger students by older learners at Merishaw School has sparked public outrage and concern among parents.
In response, the school issued a statement confirming that the footage is not recent, describing it as an “old incident” that does not reflect the current environment within the institution. According to the administration, disciplinary action was taken against the students involved at the time.
The school further stated that the matter was formally reported to authorities at Isinya Police Station, and due process was followed. They reassured parents and the public of their commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all learners.
However, the explanation has done little to calm concerns, with many parents questioning both the timing of the incident and the school’s handling of discipline.
Some of the reactions online include:
-
Otieno Wicky: Questioned how a school barely four years old could classify such a recent incident as “old,” asking for clarity on what measures were taken to ensure student safety.
-
Julie Muriuki: Argued that the timing is irrelevant, stressing that the incident itself points to a deeper issue with the school environment.
-
Mwanjiru: Expressed disappointment in the school’s disciplinary systems, noting that such cases should not occur at all and praising the student who recorded the video.
-
Drazmania: Challenged the school’s statement, claiming the video is from February 17, 2026, and alleging the matter is still pending with police, suggesting the response is merely a public relations effort.
The incident has reignited conversations around student safety, bullying, and accountability in schools, with many calling for greater transparency and stronger preventive measures.
